Media highlights: Latest allegations of peacekeeper sexual abuse in CAR

On January 29, the UN announced a series of disturbing new allegations of sexual abuse by peacekeepers - both UN and non-UN - in the Central African Republic. The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) announced the allegations against non-UN troops early in the day, while the Department of Field Services (DFS) later briefed journalists in New York on the allegations against UN peacekeepers.

Prior to the briefing in New York, the Code Blue Campaign decried this fragmentation and obfuscation - pointing out that this pattern of attempting to separate the UN from responsibility was definitively rejected by Judge Deschamps in her report this past December - and reiterated its call for external oversight of the entire UN's response to the crisis.
